AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

He was recognized in 1999 and in 2001 by the Commander Philippine Fleet as the NSWG Commanding Officer of the Year for his outstanding leadership as commanding officer of NSWU-1 and NSWU-7 respectively. Under his command NSWU-1 was able to seize 225,000 board feet of illegal logs in the Sierra Madre area. The unit enforced a successful campaign program against illegal fishing at Lamon Bay, Quezon which was commended by the people and local government officials for the positive socio-economic impact of the program. The unit also conducted joint anti-drug operations with other agencies which resulted in the seizure of 500 kilos of shabu. As commander of NSWU-7, he led the unit in anti-smuggling operations and several combat missions in the Davao Region. The unit also conducted successful relief operation and evacuation of flash flood victims at Davao City and Davao del Sur Province. Under Task Force Comet they took part in the rescue operation of kidnap victims Mr. Schilling in Sulu and the Dos Palmas tourists in Basilan which resulted in the apprehension of lawless elements, abu sayyaf terrorists, and several high powered firearms. Under his leadership the enlisted personnel of the unit was able to garner 68 meritorious promotions.

He is a recipient of 3 Gold Cross Medals, a Navy Cross Medal, and a Bronze Cross Medal for gallantry in action and combat/field accomplishments. He also received 26 other various merit medals, commendation medals, campaign ribbons, and military badges.

He brought the armed service closer to the people by participating and initiating assorted community development projects in his area of deployment. These acts earned him 17 commendations from different PO’s, NGO’s, Government Officials, and private individuals.

He has participated in a number of Special Operations Exercises with the US Navy SEALS.
